Maxi Construction supports Start Up Stirling
Start Up Stirling is a local foodbank and crisis support charity helping the homeless and those in crisis in the Stirling community.
Our Business Support Coordinator visited the premises at Springkerse Industrial Estate to deliver our donation of dried food items and met the fantastic team of staff and volunteers. During the visit, our eyes were opened to the extent that this team go to, to ensure that they have the resources available for those that need it.
Their aim is to relieve poverty, suffering and distress by providing or assisting in the provision of household goods, crisis food and friendship. They achieve this by providing:
Foodbank Service
Food packs containing dried and tinned food, fresh fruit and vegetables to feed an individual, or family for 3-4 days. The packs also contain a recipe card and the ingredients needed to encourage clients to improve or learn the basic cooking skills.
Home Starter Packs
For people who are receiving keys to new tenancies after a period of crisis, homelessness, or leaving care or the prison service providing them with pans, cutlery, cooking utensils, towels, crockery, small electrical items such as toasters and kettles as well as quilts, bedding and pillows.
Support Service
The team recognise that having someone to talk to is as important as the practical help and emergency food, so the support service have trained volunteers who spend time listening to and talking with people, signposting them to other services, to provide tailored help where appropriate.
Each week, Start Up Stirling supports over 400 people with a third of them being children. It is estimated that £320,000 will be required in 2022-23 to support all of the people who need to use the service.
