Sciennes Primary School pupils get creative with Maxi Construction

Maxi Construction are currently on site at Sciennes Primary School delivering a new £2.7m 2-storey classroom block within the grounds of the Grade B listed Sciennes Primary School for The City of Edinburgh Council.

Site Management have been working closely with the schools ‘Building Reps’ whilst on site and recently asked the children to get creative through our Safety Poster Competition and STEM activity.

Safety Poster Competition
We informed the children on the possible dangers on construction sites and were asked to participate in creating a site safety poster that would help towards keeping people safe.

The entries were exceptionally creative with the use of vibrant colours, excellent illustrations and valuable information relating to health and safety in construction.

The winners (Maria P2b, Neo P2c, Ben P3a, and Rhona P3a) were awarded with a gift voucher and Maxi water bottle and notebook. The winning designs are now displayed on a banner attached to the site perimeter.

STEM Activity
In collaboration with Structural Engineer Will Rudd Davidson, we hosted an event for pupils to get hands on with some DIY engineering and make giraffe enclosures out of spaghetti, marshmallows, and playdough. The children had to use a variety of problem solving and mathematical skills including: estimation, graphing, and measuring.

The event was well received by all involved and there were some magnificent creations.
