Skills Centre Extension West Lothian College

Location: Livingston

Summary: Mezzanine level extension to an existing college building.

Description of Works:

Procured via Lot 1.1.4 of the Crown Commercial Service Construction Works & Associated Services Framework, this project was for a mezzanine level extension to the existing Skills Centre building within an operational college campus.

Works included:

  • Installation of new structural steelwork within existing building to form new mezzanine level
  • Suspended concrete floor slab with bar reinforcement
  • Concrete foundations and associated hard landscaping
  • Forming a new external steel escape stair
  • Alterations to existing building envelope to accommodate new access and egress
  • Partition walls
  • External and internal glazed doors
  • All associated internal finishes including joinerwork, flooring and decoration
  • Mechanical & electrical works including hot and cold water supply, heating, lighting, power, supply and extract ventilation system and fire and smoke alarm systems
  • Installation of platform lift

Added Value:

  • Re-use of some existing radiant heating panels instead of replacing resulting in cost and environmental benefits.
  • Co-ordination with the College to accommodate equipment installation prior to handover to enable the earliest use of the new teaching space.

Community Benefits:

  • Ongoing liaison with West Lothian College’s Lifetime Ambassador relating to Project SEARCH opportunities and Creative Industry students project.
  • Site visits offered to college students to be set for appropriate time.
  • Short term work experience offered via Project SEARCH.
  • Mock interviews offered via Project SEARCH.
