Refurbishment of Wardie Primary School

Location: Edinburgh

Summary: Alteration and refurbishment works to a well-established primary school which remained occupied throughout the works.

Description of Works:

Alteration and refurbishment works to a well-established primary school in Granton, Edinburgh which remained occupied throughout the works. Internally, classrooms and ancillary rooms were upgraded with works comprising of services improvements, new finishes, and decoration throughout. Externally, minor roof and tank housing repairs were completed.

Works included:

• Roof repairs and part replacement roof including:
  • Removal of Wet Rot
  • Specialist repairs
  • Treatment to main beams
  • All copes around the full roof perimeter were treated/dried and Fiberglass Flashings and then overlaid with special Mineral Felt
• Replacement floor coverings which included:
  • Carpet tiles
  • Vinyl
  • Gymnasium wood floor
• M&E works included:
  • Installation of PIR lighting throughout
  • Installation of new boilers
  • New Floodlights wired and Installed  around exterior of School
  • Installation of two new mains electrical panels fitted and four new distribution boards including the transfer of existing circuits from old DB Boards and removal of all old equipment
  • Installation of a new Fire Alarm system including interfacing with outbuildings
  • Installation of new exterior & interior Fire Doors
• Masonry repairs
• Toilet upgrades
• Decoration throughout

Added Value:

Toilets were not initially part of of the scope however, on inspection we found that the wiring required upgrading. This resulted in us stripping all the lighting and containment out and fitting new.

With regards to roof works we were required to fit a new Skylight to one of the toilet block roofs as there was a problem with water ingress from the existing roof. We advised the best way to resolve this was to raise the roof to avoid any further problems, this resulted in a new roof being built to accept the new skylight.

We arranged for the installation of new blackout blinds to some of the rooms.
