New Annexe Sciennes Primary School

Location: Edinburgh

Summary: Design & build 431m2 2-storey classroom block to Passivhaus standard

Description of Works: Procured via Lot 1.1.4 of the Crown Commercial Service Construction Works & Associated Services Framework this project was for the design and construction of a new 431m2 2-storey classroom block within the grounds of an operational Grade B listed primary school. The building was constructed to Passivhaus standard and provides classrooms, toilets and circulation areas.

Works included:

  • Groundworks
  • Utilities connections
  • Concrete ground floor slab
  • Cross laminated timber (CLT) first floor and roof slab
  • Facing brick/masonry external finish
  • Quadruple glazing windows
  • Rooflights
  • Heavily insulated external CLT walls and roof
  • Internal CLT partition walls
  • Internal doors and screens
  • Mechanical and electrical installations including power, lighting, a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system (MVHR) and air source heat pumps, data, audio visual system, alarm systems including fire and intruder and ventilation
  • Lift
  • External works include paving, steel stair, gates and formation of an orchard, “rain garden”, shrubs and raised beds

Added Value:

  • Led STEM activities in the school
  • Hosted site tours for Edinburgh Napier University, West Lothian College and Scottish Government Department Heads for Building Regulations
