Menstrie Early Years Centre

Summary: Design and construction of a 585m² early years centre

Description of Works: This project was part of the Primary School & Early Years Bundle for Clackmannanshire Council delivered with hub East Central Scotland Limited.  The work at Menstrie Primary School involved the design and construction of a new 585m² nursery building which accommodates all age groups in an open plan arrangement in the central core, with access out to external play areas.  Staff and services areas are located around the central open area.  The building also provides a plant room, kitchen, stores, toilets, office spaces, consultation rooms and boot/changing areas.

• Concrete floor slab
• Steel frame construction
• Composite wall cladding
• Insulated steel-clad built-up roof system
• Toilet pods of insulated timber frame wall construction with cedral cladding in keeping with biophilic design and single ply roof
• Timber alu-clad windows and doors and fixed rooflights
• Curtain walling
• Internal partition walls
• Glazed timber screens
• Suspended ceilings and acoustic panelling
• Mechanical and electrical installations including power, lighting, data, access control, alarm systems, pv roof panels, underfloor heating, windcatchers and ventilation
• Internal finishes were of biophilic design for occupant connectivity to the natural environment.  This featured in the FF+E colour palettes and natural oak vinyl flooring
• Fixtures and fittings included kitchens (a domestic style kitchen and a commercial regeneration kitchen) and toilet facilities.
• External works included hard and soft landscaping

Community Benefits:

• We hosted a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event for local suppliers/sub contractors to attend
• We upskilled our existing workforce via fully funded SVQs in Construction Operations and SSSTS training
• School safety talk and poster competition
• Donation to school breakfast club
